50MHz UKAC 2023

The results of the December 50MHz UKAC are presented below. Tropo propagation appeared to be better than normal ('unusually reasonable' G4LPP), and MS conditions from the Geminids were good, with many making several MS QSOs, including on SSB. Paul G3YDY and Jon GM4JTJ made second and third in the AR section with relatively few contacts by focusing on MS DX.

Annual Summary

This year there were 30 entries in the local club section (up by one), but only 32 in the general club section down from 42.

112 entries were received in January, with a peak of 159 in June, falling back to 118 in December. The total number of entrants this year was 314 compared with 357 in 2022, 470 in 2021 and 516 in 2020, continuing a decline but at a slowing rate.

This year the Parallel Lines Contest Group moved up to take the top spot in the Local Club section, demoting Hereford Amateur Radio Society to second place after a strong run of wins.  Northampton Radio Club was in third place, as last year.

Northern Fells Group continue to be the winners of the General Club section this year but with a closer battle with Wirral & District ARC, who take the runner up position again. 807 Amateur Radio Operators is in third place.

Top place in the Open section went to David G4ASR, with GI4SNA in second place this year. For the third year in succession Chris & Pauline G4FZN/P were in third place. The leading overseas station award goes to Iain EA5IWZ, who took full advantage of good Sporadic E conditions in June.

In the Restricted section Pete G4CLA has repeated his dominant performance, with wins all but two of the sessions through the year. Ian G0CNN/P swapped places with Dave G3TBK/P this year in the second and third place spots in a close fought battle. The leading intermediate station was again Darrell 2E0VCC/P in fourth place overall, with Roger EI8KN just managing to pip Philippe F1CBC as the leading overseas station.

Steve G1YBB/P made the maximum 8000 point score to maintain his position at the top of the AL section, with Allan G6HPR/P making the runner up spot. Steve G0EAK/P takes third place again. The highest placed Intermediate entrant was Mark 2E0SBM(/P). Leading Foundation entrant was David M7DQO.

The station providing the most appearances in the Best DX column was again David GI4SNA, with 403 citations.

Congratulations to all those listed, who receive certificates.

The first 50MHz UKAC of 2024 takes place on Thursday 11th January at 20:00 GMT.
